I feel constantly encouraged to take on opportunities (I can never take for granted that my friends will come sit in a 2-hour acting class just to watch me perform my 2-minute scene), and I feel immense pride when my friends kill it in their leadership positions. The friends here exhibit passion and inspire me in so many aspects. They all demonstrate compassion, kindness, and authenticity every day. The friends I have made at Belmont have changed me in the best way.
Every time I pass an AST on the way to class, they can bring a smile to my face. Specifically, Alpha Sigma Tau has brought me girls who care so much about my life – they ask about my day and really mean it. I’m never ready to leave them even when rehearsals are getting out at 11:30, so of course the night usually continues with Abbey, Laken, and I jumping in the car to get milkshakes or spontaneously buying tie-dye supplies to make shirts for our next sorority event.Įvery day I feel luckier to attend Belmont and be surrounded by these friendships.Įverywhere I go, I run into someone that fits a genuine exchange into a short passing by. I get to end every night at Greek sing rehearsals with my closest friends who manage to be the make me laugh so hard after a stressful day. Even though life feels kind of hectic right now, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We are in the middle of Greek sing rehearsals while preparing for finals and finding housing for next year. I have Fiona who brings me to Cook Out during a stressful week and sings in the car in the parking garage after.Īs we get closer to the end of the year, everything is busy. I have friends that will ask me to go line dancing downtown on random weekends. I have friends that meet with me every Sunday to go to church and get breakfast while catching up on everyone’s weeks.

Everyday brought another memory with a friend, such as my frequent walks with Abbey Jane to get free coffee at Dunkin’ after the Predators win or taking pictures of my friends from my residence hall (Hail Hall forever) before all of their sorority formals. As the year progressed, I found myself surrounded by relationships that were genuine and meaningful. I got so lost in the idea of what my life at college was supposed to look like that I wasn’t paying attention to the incredible blessings that were happening every day.įor me, the most important moments this year were the everyday occurrences. I was so concerned with attention to how other people were doing at college and the perfect lives they seemed to be living on social media. I instantly felt this pressure and let it get to me. You want to make your best friends immediately and start this seemingly new life. This is the case for a lot of people moving away for college, and there is so much pressure surrounding your personal college experience. I didn’t know anyone and I was starting off on a clean slate. I came to Belmont from New Orleans, Louisiana.
My Freshman Year at Belmont has been defined by the relationships God has blessed me with. However, as I come to the end of my Freshman year at Belmont, I realize how this experience has brought the greatest sense of community. It can be easy to take this word for granted after hearing it repeatedly. Community is a word used as often as possible around Belmont – in campus tours, at orientation week, and in most organizations on campus.
